WRC co-chairs Don and Penny Miller present plaque and roses to retiring director Penny Shell
Women's Resource Center director, Penny Shell, will retire June 30.  Shell, who came to the Women's Resource Center as associate director in 2000, after 14 years of teaching and 16 years as a health-care chaplain, then became director in 2002.  Shell followed founding director Kit Watts, who left to become full-time director of communication at Southeastern California Conference.  Watts continues at the WRC on a part-time basis.  Heide Ford expects to be on site by August 1.

"Finding ways to empower women of all ages," Shell says, "is also finding ways to heal and strengthen the church."

Together Watts and Shell strengthened contact with women in ministry, brought outstanding speakers to the La Sierra University campus, gave support to men and women whose churches became negative about women elders and pastors, kept tract of women's role in Adventist history, presented the popular annual conference, Women & the Word, developed and provided resources, and, with the WRC Advisory board, raised the funds that fuel these activities.  Shell has especially enjoyed working toward a new web site design with increased possibilities.

"I am thrilled to turn over activities so precious to me to someone with the skills and passion that Heide Ford has exhibited,"  Shell commented.  Shell will move to Oregon near Walla Walla College (College Place, Washtinton) in July.
